.

Liliya Rogova, the Director of ArteLia, a contemporary art dealer specialising in Ukrainian art, has initiated "The art for Orphans Project".

.

The project has been created to help Ukrainian orphans learn about art in a fun and engaging way, with the help of renowned Ukrainian artists assisting them in practising painting techniques. Through 10-sessions in each orphanage in the city of Kirovograd and its region the team of artists and art teachers will help children open up through creative expression, teach the orphans how to see the beauty in everyday life and find creative solutions in various situations.

.

ArteLia will donate 10% of all proceeds from the sale of its works at a series of art fairs to fund the project.

.

Ukraine Charity would like to thank Liliya for this initiative and encourages everyone to support this project via justgiving.com

Berlin Marathon

.

Mariana Baldwin, a Swede living in the UK, ran the Berlin Marathon on 28th September and fundraised for the Ukraine Charity.
Deciding to fundraise for UC, she says, was not a difficult decision. Ever since her two trips to Ukraine in 1998 with a humanitarian aid organisation, the country, Mariana says, has been close to her heart. Visiting an orphanage and hospitals in and around Kyiv made a deep impression on her, and she recalls fondly all the kind people she met.

We thank Mariana for choosing Ukraine Charity as the beneficiary of her fundraising campaign, which raised over £700.

Ivana Kupala Eve in London

.

Ukraine Charity hosted a fundraising dinner with a traditional Ivana Kupala theme, and raised over £6,000.

.

Please find attached a press release and some pictures from the event.  All the money went to support funding this year's annual Help Us Help the Children (HUHTC) summer camp held in July 2008 for three weeks in Vorokhta, situated in Western Ukraine's Carpathian Mountains.

The camp's 500 orphans come from across the country and learn valuable life-skills like First Aid, computers and team-building. They make new friendships, participate in Ukrainian traditions, and are encouraged to speak in Ukrainian only, as some of the campers come from Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine. A highlight of the camp includes the annual hike to the summit of Mount Hoverla, Ukraine's highest peak.

Ukraine Charity thanks the Chopivsky Family Foundation for its financial support!
